About the Programme

The programme on Sustainable Development Practices is in response to paradigm shift in social changes, national and international policies on development goals and livelihood, dynamics of national and international priorities and responsible business and its operations which necessitate new capabilities and tools for administrators and managers.

The practical and theory intervention in the program demands that the new concept on ‘Sustainable Development Practices’ draws attention from four important pillars i.e. Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, and Management. It is very much underlined intention to develop a race of leaders for sustainable development practices who are just not one of the specialist in a specific area understanding only either demand side, supply side or policy perspectives. The knowledge base of this program is towards an intellectual course of action which offers solution and helps interdisciplinary engagements instead of developing a source of intellectual thesis for real word problems. The graduates may be looked as experts who will address the technical issues of social development in practical solutions in exceptionable manner.

MDP Secretariat jointly established by McArthur Foundation and The Earth Institute, Columbia University as suggested by ICESDP will provide support for Global Classroom, to the institutions in Global MDP Network of universities.

“We realise that, due to paradigm shift in understanding of society, economics and business, academic institutions have to create a space for preparing professionals well versed with intricacies of public policy and sustainable development practices. Its urgency has been highlighted by an International Commission on Education for Sustainable Development Practice (ICESDP), McArthur Foundation and The Earth Institute, Columbia University. The survey conducted by ICPP covering about 100 thought leaders and development practitioners, also revealed the acute need of professionals to carry forward the agenda of sustainable development and inclusive growth. Such trained persons are being viewed to play an important and effective role by the development sector, international and national organisations, research agencies, corporate, media, and public organisations.
