Centre For Retail

About the Centre for Retail

Retail industry has emerged as a sunrise sector and is expected to make a remarkable contribution towards overall economic growth during the next decade in the same way as contributed by the knowledge-based economy in the recent past. Entry of the leading business houses into the organized retail sector and the well-known international brands waiting to get green signal to enter the field, indicate growth potentialities of the sector. Huge gap between demand for and supply of the trained managers has intensified competition for the available managerial talents within the industry.

The Centre for Retail was launched by BIMTECH in 2002, in order to supply quality managers, capable of shouldering responsibilities in a highly competitive retail marketing environment. Our students get apprised of not just all aspects related to retail marketing, but also get in-depth exposure to core management areas such as Marketing Management, Financial Accounting, Organization Behavior, Quantitative Techniques and Business Economics. This ensures that they would be in a position to shoulder senior managerial responsibilities in future. I am sure our students will always remember BIMTECH as a stepping stone in their future endeavor.

The centre has formed strategic alliances with a number of Retail sector related organisations. It has developed tie-ups with the following Indian and international organizations to provide access to the best resources available in retailing.

• Academic Member of Franchisee Association of India
• Academic member of Retailer of India

The location was Best Price®, Amritsar. Walmart® officials also treated it as a welcome move and gave the permission for the budding retailers to witness and learn their systems and processes.

  • Short Term Projects: (II year Students): One can see a lot of energy in the students. These intelligent minds work very hard and give their best whenever they take up any task. Wherever they worked, they always succeeded in leaving the BIMTECH mark behind. . Apart from the activities organized by the institute and Summer Training, which is a part of the course curriculum they have always shown great interest in learning new things and have undertaken short term projects in the companies like Pantaloons, Titan, Tanishq and Wadhwan Group, to name a few. Through these exercises students are able gain a practical exposure which further helps them in becoming better Managers.

  • On The Job Training: ( I year Students): We at Birla Institute feel that the gap between what is being taught in class and what is happening in the field should be bridged. We also want that the students should have hands on experience regarding how a Retail Store functions. In order to make this happen we have made modified our curriculum wherein the students spend 4 days in the class room and have one weekly off and they spend two days, i .e Saturday and Sunday in a Retail Store.

Learning Objectives

Students get the real hand experience of  what happens in the Retail store

Live research to find solutions for live problem.

This initiative has been taken with the following Retail Organizations:- Aditya Birla MORE, Pantaloon, Globus, Lifestyle,Reliance Trends,ITC Lifestyle, Madura Garments, Ebony Guatier.

Gradually we want that there should be a tie up with about 30 retail organizations so that we have two students going to each Organization.
