A Culturally Vibrant Autumn @ BIMTECH

In keeping with its responsibility of organizing and conducting various cultural events on campus, the Cultural Conduit organized a "Dandiya Night" on October 3, on the occasion of Navratri. The campus was decorated in accordance with the theme. The event commenced with a Navratri Puja by the Director and senior faculty members and staff. All students, including those from foreign countries, who are here for a trimester as part of the Student Exchange programme, had a good time performing Dandiya. Special Prizes were given to the "Best Dancer" and "Best Dressed" (Male and Female).
In association with SPICMACAY, the Cultural Conduit also hosted three major events at BIMTECH. The first in the series was a live concert of Qawwali by Ghulam Sabir Nizami and Ghulam Waris Nizami on October 15. The Nizami Brothers are outstanding artists of All India Radio and Doordarshan. They have performed in many national and international festivals including Qutub festival, Jhansi festival, Ruhaniyat festival, etc. They have also performed at Royal Albert Hall, London. The audience was spellbound by the performance and swayed to the tunes of these versatile artistes.
The very next day saw a live concert of Rajasthani Folk Music by Ustad Rehmat Khan Langa. He has performed extensively in India and abroad and is a senior artist of All India Radio. He has performed several times in music conferences organized by renowned organizations. The event was very interactive and there was active participation by faculty, staff and students.
The third in the series was a Bharatnatyam recital by Padmashri Geeta Chandran on November 12. An outstanding artist, Padmashri Geeta Chandran has performed in many national and international programmes. She was a Board Member on India’s National Film Censor Board and is currently the Government of India’s nominee on the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Advisory Board and National Council. She is also a recipient of many prestigious awards, fellowships and honours. The acclaimed artist not only performed to perfection; but she also explained, in between the programme, the nuances of this classical dance form. Her charming and exquisite body movements were in complete harmony with her expressions, reflecting her inner soul, and were a feast for the discerning eyes. The audience remained spellbound. Her erudition on the subject was much appreciated by all present.

Achievements at XIMB

BIMTECH was invited by the cultural society of XIMB to participate in "Xpressions '11", their annual fest. A team of twenty eight students represented BIMTECH in the event at Bhubaneswar. The students participated in various events like Group Dance, Fashion Show, Solo Song, and Mr. and Miss Xpressions. The Fashion Team won the first prize, beating competition from various other colleges and got a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a direct entry to "Channel V Nokia India Fest" where colleges from all over the country would participate. The Dance Team finished a close second and their performance was well applauded. After proving his talent and mettle in many rounds, Rishi Iqbal Gujral of PGDM won the title of Mr. Xpressions.

Vihaan 2011

Vihaan Team Conducted the event VIHAAN 2011 in BIMTECH on 27th-28th August.The events began with the inaugural ceremony in the morning in the presence of corporate bigwigs such as Dr. Alok Bharadwaj, Sr. V.P., Canon India Pvt. Ltd., the Chief Guest, and Mr. Rajesh Agarwal, CEO Micromax Informatics Ltd., the Guest of Honour. The plethora of events saw the participants competing to prove their mettle in various events focused towards bringing forth new talent and testing not only business acumen, but literary skills and cultural performances as well.
The competitions began with ‘HR Quotient’ to identify the best future HR manager, on the topic “HR manager for Indian cricket team” and ‘The Social Entrepreneur’ which was the CSR event to identify opportunities that exist in the most down-trodden areas of Greater NOIDA. In addition to this, there was a business event called ‘Vitruvian’, which was the ultimate test for management skills, leadership and endurance. The JAM session was moderated by the famous JAM master, Mr. Kartik Ramaswamy, SBU Head of Levi’s India Pvt. Ltd. The other events of the day included ‘Bulls & Bears’, a stock market simulation event, which attracted a lot of participants. The judges for various events included senior executives from the corporate world like, Mr. Praveen Kumar, General Manager (HR), JSPL; Ms. Ester Martinez, Co-founder and Managing Editor, People Matters; Mr. T G Keswani, GM Jaypee Group; Mr. Rajiv Sahdev, VP (HR), Moser Baer India; Mr. Tejasvi Mohanram, CEO and Founder, Tetra Media Pvt. Ltd.; Mr. Pradeep Sarmah, Founder Centre for Rural Development; Mr. Brijesh Kumar, Retd. IAS; Mr. Anshu Gupta, Founder of NGO Goonj, and many more.

A quizzing competition, ‘Fire Fight’ was also organized to test the business knowledge of the participants. Some gaming events like ‘Blitzkrieg’, a Counter-Strike 1.6 gaming contest, also attracted lots of eyes and participants. The ‘Informals’, an assortment of small, fun-filled games and events, saw enthusiastic participation from all quarters. GDP, our acronym for Guitars, Drums and Piano, was the war of the bands event. The terrific performances were a huge hit and a perfect prelude to the most-awaited event, The Pro-Night. The famous Delhi band ‘Them Clones’ set the stage on fire and had everyone dancing to their music for the next 90 minutes.
All the events went through so smoothly that the team members were rather amazed at the seamless functioning and smoothness with which they had pulled it off. That night Raghav Kumar and Abhishek Malik took a triumphant walk down the vacant area. Their experiment of organizing a rock concert had just turned out to be a great success. The first day ended successfully with zeal, vigor and hope for even a more happening second day.
The next day began with ‘Takraar’, the debate competition, where students from various colleges engaged in a war of words on the topic “Is Bollywood a cheap rip-off of Hollywood?” The chief guest and also a judge for the event was none other than the renowned Bollywood filmmaker Mr. Mahesh Bhatt. The other two judges were Mr. Ajay Kanchan and Mr. Aman Uppal. The question answer round that followed, witnessed enthusiastic participation from the audience. Finally, Mr. Mahesh Bhatt shared his take on the topic and advised students to live life with the originality of their dreams and not just blindly follow what the world wants.
‘BIZZMARK’, the marketing competition sponsored by Canon, aimed to judge the participants’ skills in identifying customer needs and thereby presenting and selling their products to the judges. It was a three round competition in which students presented very innovative products and marketing ideas. The judges for this event were Mr. Sumit Pahwa, DGM (Marketing), Tata DOCOMO, GSM and Mr. Prem Chand Palety, Chief Executive, C-Fore. Plan 1.0, the Business Plan competition, provided an opportunity for budding managers and entrepreneurs to showcase their entrepreneurial skills to an eminent jury comprising venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and academicians. The theme of this event was ‘Urban Entrepreneurship’ and the judges were Ms. Vijaylaxmi, VP Centrum Capital Ltd.; Mr. Tarun Matta, Founder of IIMJobs.com and Mr. Anil Srivatsa, Strategic Consultant at Digital Media Startup Ventures.
‘Nukkad Natak’, the street play competition was a platform for the students to showcase their acting talent on a social topic without any stage, curtains or retakes. The evening was a celebration of talents in cultural events. ‘Bailamos’, the dance competition, had the teams portray a story using Bollywood songs and also tested their choreography skills in a popular dance form. ‘Bedazzled’, the fashion show sponsored by Killer Jeans, was a truly magical affair. In the first round, the teams left the audience spellbound by their depiction of the richness of Indian marriages and the second round gave them a chance to indulge in contemporary as well as funky accessories.
The fest came to a close with the Awards Ceremony followed by a DJ night hosted by DJ Sash. All events had gone through so smoothly that the participants could not believe that this was BIMTECH’s first attempt at organizing such a fest. They were full of praise and the thunderous applause was followed up with appreciative mails from participants as well as guests. This was made possible by the support of a galaxy of sponsors including Hyundai Motors India Ltd, Canon India Pvt. Ltd., Mahindra Solar, Vodafone, SAIL, NTPC, THDC India Ltd., Kerala Tech, Killer Jeans, Lanco Infratech, GFL, UFlex, Orient Green Power, Hira Group, The Great India Place, Worlds of Wonder, Hotel Grand Sunset (Shimla), On Stage, HT Mint and Management Paradise.
‘Vihaan 2011’ ended with great pomp and show, leaving behind a triumphant BIMTECH fraternity and a tired yet content and jubilant Team Vihaan.

The Great Debate-2011
"Should the Civil Society be Allowed to Participate in Law Making"

Majlis conducted the first event of the academic calendar 2011-2012, The Great Debate 2011. It was held in the BIMTECH premises on July 14, 2011. The topic for the debate was "Should the Civil Society be Allowed to Participate in Law Making". The show witnessed ten panellists, five for the motion and five against. The moderator for the event was Prof. Sunil Sangra, while the judges were Dr. J.Shettigar and Prof. P.S Nagpal.
The participants included both the first and the second year students. The screenings were conducted for two days in the form of Group Discussions. From around 150 registrations, the panellists for the main Debate zeroed down to 10. The topics for the group discussions ranged from IPL to the need for nuclear power in the developing countries.

Majlis took the opportunity to organise the first event, The Great Debate 2011 ,of BIMTECH with immense support from Prof. Sangeeta Shukla,Mentor Majlis ,Faculty, Administration, Staff and Students. The winners of The Great Debate 2011 were:

BIMTECH has always showcased colossal talent amongst the budding managers. Not only has Majlis believed in bringing out talent but also supporting and encouraging the speakers with every new event .
