Venue:  Virtual online meeting

The Alumni Conduit of BIMTECH organised a Virtual Alumni Meet event on 11th of July 2020 for the pass out batches of 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. Around 40+ alumni participated in the event not only from India but also from countries such as Sweden, USA.

The event began with a welcome speech by Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH along with Dr. Gagan Katiyar, Head, Alumni Conduit, BIMTECH, after which Prof. Manoj Pant explained the concept and flow of the event to the audience. The discussion on the ways in which the alumni are coping up with COVID-19 went on for some time, in which few alumni mentioned about the situation of their companies, their happiness on spending time with family at home, building upon relationships with colleagues and friends and much more.

After getting done with the discussion, the event moved on towards the activities which were planned for the alumni as well as for the faculty of BIMTECH. Prof. K. R. Chari, Prof. Krishna Akalamkam and Prof. Saloni Sinha were invited as judges for the activities. For the first activity, every participant was assigned a particular break out room having 3-4 other participants. There were seven break out rooms in all and one topic was given to the participants of every break out room for discussion and presentation. After the allotted time was over, everyone came out of the break out rooms to the main session, where one member from each group presented about their topic in two minutes’ time. The topics were as follows:

  • Which is more important, EQ or IQ?
  • Every cloud has a silver lining
  • Networking has become more important nowadays
  • Be patient with your family and friends
  • Most important thing is beginning
  • If aliens landed on the Earth, which country should they live in?
  • Is it possible to mark the thin line that divides the right or wrong?

The presentations followed a feedback session, in which the alumni were asked to suggest ways in which new activities can be planned, ways to have a better networking between the alumni fraternity and also the ways to update correct data in the alumni portal. Many alumni put forward their suggestions and feedback, which were proactively agreed upon by Dr. Gagan Katiyar and Prof. Manoj Pant.

The event followed by making the alumni sing to the favourite tunes of their respective batches, to take the event on a lighter note. Few polls were also launched, which consisted of fun questions such as the alumni’s favourite spot in college, one thing which they remember the most about college, etc.

With this, the event came to the most crucial part of result declarations. Group 3: Kishore Kumar, Gaurav Srivastava, Gaurav Sharma, Girish Iyer were the winners, followed by runner up Group 2: Dev Bhutani, Deepak Gupta, Anurag Sharma, Arunoj Singh, Amit Jain and 2nd runner up Group 7: Pooja B, Sreela Menon, Nitesh Kumar. The winners won Amazon e- gift vouchers.  All the other participants would be couriered coffee mugs with the screenshots of the event being printed on them.

The alumni showed their gratitude towards the college and the conduit for hosting such a lovely event with a unique format. The event came to an end with a vote of thanks address by Dr. Anupam Varma, Deputy Director, Bimtech. The enthusiasm of the alumni could be gauged from the fact that the event which was scheduled to end at 8.30pm went on till 9 pm IST.
