About

Prof. Biswas is a researcher in the field of linguistics, having interest in diverse interdisciplinary avenues. He was amongst the toppers of his batch in Jawaharlal Nehru University, with an FGPA of 8.0 on a 9-point scale.

Presently pursuing Doctoral research in Linguistics, from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, he was selected for the coveted Junior Research Fellowship after the first semester of his Masters in Linguistics. He received acceptance for graduate study at premier institutions like the National University of Singapore, University of Essex, Southern Illinois University, IIT Bombay and EFLU, Hyderabad. He is a Life Member of the Linguistic Society of India as well as the Indian Association for Canadian Studies.

He has been involved in preparing the official document “Information pertaining to the Official languages in the NCT of Delhi” for the Language Experts Committee, Ministry of Human Resource Development, India. He has worked on critical linguistics issues in Bengali, Tinkar-lo and Indian Sign Language. Having been associated with leading organizations like Macmillan Publishers India, INKTalks and Qualified Learning Systems (Shiv Khera), he also has extensive experience in professional editing and translation.

As an academic, he has taught a diverse range of students in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He had also been selected for an internship with bab.la (a leading multilingual online dictionary portal, tied to the Oxford University Press) in Hamburg, to create an online Bengali dictionary as a lead-up to a broader project of a physical dictionary by the Oxford University Press.

He has 5 International and 1 National journal publications along with paper presentation at 12 International Conferences.

He is associated with the pro-gaming conduit NOESIS at BIMTECH.

Awards & Achievements

  • Cleared the University Grants Commission organized National Eligibility Test for Assistant Professor/ Lecturership in 2014; Selected for Junior Research Fellowship based on rank.
  • Third position in the Department with FGPA of 8.0 out of 9, for Master of Arts in Linguistics, at Centre for Linguistics, School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

  • Selected for interview by the Fulbright Selection Panel, USIEF, for Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship in Hindi.

  • Selected by Ministry of Human Resource Development, India for Interview for Commonwealth Scholarship for UK 2014-15.

  • Awarded first position on completion of Russian Senior Course with 85% marks from School of Languages, Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Kolkata in 2009.

  • Awarded first position for extempore speech on environmental waste disposal at the 30th Annual Function of Lok Siksha Sangsad in 2005; received Certificate of Merit from the Mayor of Kolkata.

  • Received Certificate of Merit from IUCAA Reference Centre, Jadavpur University, for my essay on – “The Most Important Milestone in 20th Century Physics” in the competition organized as part of celebration of the year of Physics in 2005.
