Orientation Day (2016-18)

Centre for Retail conducted its Orientation Program for Batch 2016-18 on June 19, 2016. The day started with the Faculty of Centre for Retail meeting up with the new learners and sharing with them details on the objectives of the Course, course curriculum, expectation from the students.

This was followed by a session from the industry expert Mr. Anurag Sharma, AVP, Fashion and You. The session was moderated by Prof. Manoj Pant, Associate Professor, Centre for Retail, BIMTECH. The session was in an interactive form and started with the overview of the retail sector. Mr. Anurag briefly shared the retail sector statistics, growth prospects and possibilities and highlighted the positive growth of the industry in coming years.

Students also asked numerous questions such as career prospects for freshers in retail, salient do’s and don’ts for On Job Training and Short term projects, skill sets required in front end and back end, Importance of summer internship and growth and uncertainty with respect to brick and mortar stores and e- commerce.

Post lunch there was a panel discussion by Retail Alumni working in different industries. In the panel discussion Mr. TarunVashistha, Group Manager Pantaloons ABFRL, from Batch 2004-06, Ms. CharuGoel, Head- Buying and Merchandising, Westwind Retail, from Batch 2004-06, Mr. Annu Grover, Green Evangelist-MD, Nurturing Green, from Batch 2009-2011 and Mr. VivinWason, Senior Brand Consultant, Brands of Desire, from Batch 2005-2007– 07 participated. They discussed and shared all their experiences of life at and after BIMTECH, how the Retail Program from BIMTECH has changed their Professional and Personal Life. Very importantly, they talked about why Retail program is so different from any usual MBA/PGDM and how their career options have widened after pursuing Retail Program from BIMTECH. They advocated for keeping the career options open for both front and back end retail profession. They emphasised Integrity, Passion and Sincerity as the key to success in the profession.Some of the topics that were covered during the discussion were various formats and various types of job that are available both nationally and internationally.They made students understand the value of networking, learning beyond classroom and its importance to create the competitive advantage.

The Orientation Program also included sessions by the CSR Department and International Affairs Office.
