Orientation Day (2017-19)

On June 17, 2017, the students of Centre for Retail Management 2017-19 batch had an Orientation Program with a theme to make Learning with ease in coming two years. The programme began with the Welcome address by our honourable Director, Dr.H.Chaturvedi. The major objective of the programme was to make the students aware of the academic aspects of the course, the rules and regulations of the Institute. Prof.Veenu Sharma, Program Coordinator briefed the students about the intellectual adventure in the coming two years, which included the history, objective, achievements and course structure. The students were acquainted with the opportunities they will be receiving under the umbrella of experiential learning courses and all the support and guidance that they will be getting from the Centre for Retail (CRM)and it’s members.

Thereafter, the students were addressed by Dr. Pooja Misra, Chairperson CRM, who welcomed the students and gave them an introduction regarding the academic disciplines and discussed the importance of entrepreneurship and how innovation and start-up by BIMTECH retail students facilitate in shaping and honing start-ups at the institute level by introducing FROOSH and role of students. Area Head, Marketing & Retail, Dr.Pankaj Priya also welcomed the students and motivated them to excel in their respective fields. He also mentioned about the retail industry and its future prospects. Followed next was a brief on importance of Time management in student life, its role in acceptance at various organisations, by Industry Coordinator, Prof. Manoj Kumar Pant. He exhorted students that, education should be knowledge oriented and you should try to attain overall development.

This was followed by a 2 hour session with industry expert Mr. Dharmender Matai who is currently the Head for South India for Future Consumer Limited (subsequent to the merger of Heritage Foods Ltd (Retail and Bakery Division) with Future Group. He was earlier Chief Operating Officer at Heritage Foods Ltd (Retail & Bakery Division) | E- Commerce - New Initiative. The session was moderated by Prof. Manoj Pant and the agenda of interaction and discussion evolved around the topic ‘Expectation of the industry from budding retail professionals’

Thereafter 2017-19 batch interacted with Alumni. The title of the event was, “Interaction with alumni from different industry”. The alumni who participated in the discussion were Mr. Gaurav Katiyar (Future Retail), Mr. Udaibhan Singh (Falcon Adventures) and Deepak Kunal (Snapdeal). The session was held in open interaction mode. It was moderated my Prof. Amrendra Pandey, who is also a Retail alumnus.

The students were very curious regarding their placement prospect and life at BIMTECH. The talk was divided in three part. In the first part, each alumni gave a brief story of his journey so far. where they started the discussion with aspirations before they have joining BIMTECH and how it was shaped up during their study at BIMTECH. The story ended with what they perceive about their corporate career and its future.

In the second part, the moderator initiated the talk about academic life and its importance for successful career. The questions raised by the students were related to the importance of respective subjects in their career. The alumni gave valuable lessons drawn from their own successes and faults at the campus.

In the third part, the students asked about the companies and profiles offered to them in Retail. The alumni were unanimous that most of the jobs will be in front end operations and to build a successful career in retail one needs to work for sometime in front end.

The discussion ended with the interaction with students at hi-tea, where the students asked a lot of questions which were related to their individual hobbies and aspirations.
