CESTour (Centers of Excellence in sustainable tourism to boost economic development and enhance university-business cooperation in Southern Area) is funded by the European Union, more specifically by Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education.

The primary aim of the project is to install centers of excellence for sustainable tourism at seven (7) universities in India, Nepal & Sri Lanka to share the concept of sustainable tourism on a regional and national level to create a positive impact for tourism development.

Sustainable tourism practices can lead to a stronger awareness in society about the importance of preserving heritage, environment and people and contribute to national/regional development.

Aims and Objectives

  • CESTour aims to build the concept of sustainable tourism on a regional and national level in Nepal, Sri Lanka and India.
  • Building knowledge and information dissemination around the topic of sustainable tourism and developing a higher perception about the importance of preserving heritage, environment, and people.
  • Engagement with important stakeholders to generate massive national/regional development from the source of sustainable tourism, tough in a sustainable way.

Project Outcomes

  • Development of the educational system as it builds the capacities of human resources who will contribute to the advancements of the countries as a whole.
  • Implementing a well-thought-through methodology that is meant to have a long-term impact on the higher education institutions and target groups involved in each of the Partner Countries.

  • Providers of other allied goods and services like dry-cleaners, security services, housekeeping services, infrastructure maintenance services, food suppliers, etc.
  • NGOs, cultural associations and religious associations
  • Transportation and logistics service providers
  • Financial service providers
  • Trade associations (national and local)
  • Educational and Training Institutions
  • Government – Central Government and State Governments
  • Ministries – Ministry of Tourism; Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Ministry of External Affairs; Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; and others
  • Tourism Organizations – Tourism Finance Corporation of India, The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), Travel Agent Association of India (TAAI) etc.
  • Others – Local Authorities like Panchayats and Municipal Corporations, Research Organizations, and other enforcement and execution entities
