Course Overview

The Post Graduate Programme in Retail Management at Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) stands as a landmark initiative in India’s retail education landscape. Launched in 2002, it was the first of its kind in the country, aiming to develop a pool of competent professionals who could meet the growing demands of the dynamic and competitive retail sector.

Our Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) in Retail Management is a two-year, full-time residential programme, deemed equivalent to an MBA. It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). With a strong mission to transform students’ futures by equipping them with practical knowledge and strategic insight, the program offers comprehensive coverage of retail-specific subjects alongside core management disciplines such as Marketing, Finance, Economics, Organizational Behaviour, and Quantitative Techniques.

One of the key strengths of BIMTECH’s retail program lies in its emphasis on experiential learning, a participatory and problem-solving approach. The curriculum integrates academic depth with real-world exposure through On-the-Job Training (OJT), Summer Internships, Case Studies, Live Projects, Retail Simulations, and Alumni Mentorship Programs. These elements ensure that students are not only exposed to theoretical frameworks but also acquire the hands-on skills needed in modern retail settings.

The program also addresses emerging trends in retail, including Quick Commerce (Q-Commerce), Omni-channel, Retail Analytics, and a special focus on Visual Merchandising, helping students understand the art and science of creating compelling store layouts and display strategies that attract and influence consumers.

Overall, the program reflects BIMTECH’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, industry alignment, and holistic student development. It ensures that graduates are not only well-versed in traditional retail principles but also equipped to thrive in a tech-enabled, data-driven, and customer-centric retail world. As a result, BIMTECH’s PGDM in Retail Management continues to produce retail leaders who contribute meaningfully to organizations and help shape the future of the retail industry.
