Kolkata Chapter Alumni Meet

Kolkata Alumni Chapter Meet 2026 – Celebrating Connections and Conversations

bimtech

The Kolkata Alumni Chapter Meet 2026 unfolded as an evening rooted in warmth, familiarity, and genuine connection. Unlike large-format gatherings, this meet stood out for its close-knit, almost family-like environment, where every alumnus was not just present but truly involved. With 22 registered alumni and 3 additional walk-ins, the meet proudly recorded more than 100% attendance and an overall gathering of around 35 people, including alumni and their accompanying family members. What made the evening special was not the size of the gathering, but the depth of conversations and the ease with which everyone connected.

The evening began with participant registration and warm welcome greetings, setting a comfortable tone right from the start. Conversations flowed naturally as alumni reconnected, exchanged smiles, and eased into the space. This was followed by addresses from our very own Alumni Cell Convenor, Dr. Pooja Misra, and the Chairperson – Centre for Corporate Relations, Dr. Archana Srivastava, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of alumni engagement and lifelong association with BIMTECH. Even during these moments, light networking and informal conversations continued alongside, reinforcing the essence of an alumni meet.

The flow then moved into individual alumni introductions, where participants shared their professional journeys, current roles, and company overviews. Alumni from senior-most batches to the youngest graduates spoke with equal enthusiasm, offering a beautiful mix of experience, ambition, and reflection.

The first ice-breaking activity followed soon after, where alumni were asked to guess movies through emojis. The speed and accuracy with which the answers came in reflected not just sharp minds but also an infectious competitive spirit, filling the room with laughter and energy.

This was followed by a detailed presentation by Dr. Aseem Kumar Mishra, who walked the alumni through recent updates, milestones, and achievements of BIMTECH. The session reinforced pride in the institution and acknowledged the collective efforts of the ecosystem. A special mention was made of the pillars supporting alumni engagement, including Ms. Nidhi Lakhanpal and Ms. Gurpreet Kaur, whose consistent efforts strengthen alumni relations across chapters.

Adding further depth to the evening, alumni connected virtually with Dr. Prabina Rajib over Zoom. Her interaction brought a strong sense of continuity between campus and alumni, reminding everyone of the values and vision that continue to bind the BIMTECH community together.

The energy picked up again with a lively round of dumb charades, featuring some unexpectedly brilliant and hilariously expressive performers. Winners were rewarded with gifts, and special appreciation was earned by Ms. Silva Sarkar, 2004-2006 for her standout performance. This was followed by a dance-and-freeze game involving younger alumni and extended members of the BIMTECH family, including accompanying relatives, adding to the warmth and inclusivity of the evening.

The final game of the evening focused on a listening activity where participants had to identify songs as they played. Once again, the enthusiasm was unmatched, with winners taking home prizes and special applause going to Mr. Mukarrum Ali Mirza, 2014-2016 for his impressive performance.

A special mention must be made for Mr. Soumyadeep, 2014-2016, who mesmerised everyone by singing two beautiful Bengali songs. His soulful performance was deeply appreciated by all and momentarily transformed the gathering into an intimate musical evening, adding an emotional and cultural richness that resonated with every person present.

Equally noteworthy was Mr. Subhash, 2001-2003, whose efforts played a key role in ensuring strong participation from his batchmates and fellow Kolkata alumni. His enthusiasm was infectious, and upon special request, he even took to the floor and danced, further lifting the spirit of the evening and perfectly capturing the warmth and camaraderie that defined the Kolkata meet.

The open-mic session that followed became one of the most meaningful moments of the meet. Alumni shared memories from their time at BIMTECH, spoke about challenges faced in their professional journeys, revisited hostel anecdotes, and offered thoughtful suggestions. These conversations went beyond celebration, reflecting honesty, vulnerability, and a shared sense of growth.

The evening concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Aseem Kumar Mishra, followed by recognitions for punctuality and the youngest alumnus. Group photographs captured the spirit of togetherness, after which alumni continued bonding over a networking dinner, extending conversations well beyond the formal flow of the event.

Overall, the Kolkata Alumni Chapter Meet 2026 was a testament to the power of meaningful engagement. The alumni were not just participative in games and activities, but also open in sharing real challenges and experiences, making the gathering deeply enriching. It was an evening where connections felt personal, conversations felt genuine, and bonds felt like family, leaving everyone with memories that will last well beyond the night.

The Alumni Chapter 2019 was successfully conducted at Kolkata on May 18 2019 wherein 21 alumni attended the event with their spouses and families. Additionally 7 alumni members called prior to the event to express their inability to attend due to ongoing election duties and their desire to reconnect with BIMTECH for future activities. As a Guest of Honor, Prof. A.K Biswas was invited by Prof. Krishan to interact with the students and he was warmly welcomed by all participants.

A positive discussion was undertaken with the students on various issues of the agenda. The discussion is detailed as below,
  • Visiting HR Heads of Companies with reference from some of senior alumni/Getting leads and creating HR database with their help: Many of alumni indicated their interested in helping BIMTECH in updating the extant database. However, they requested that instead of faculty members driving the placement process; students should be encouraged to take up this responsibility. The alumni also suggested that the CCR cell should take more initiative to speak with alumni and initiate more frequent contact.
  • Briefing of BIMTECH Alumni Cell and its activities: The update was given for the recent activities, instituted awards and efforts of Alumni cell to create a more integrated network of Alumni members. The information was appreciated by all participants who also wanted to have more frequent dissemination of information from the institute. A suggestion was made to re-share the links of Facebook, twitter and Linkedin pages of the Alumni cell and use the social media for increasing frequency of contact. These pages may also be used by Alumni for tagging and promotion of BIMTECH.
  • Mapping expectations of alumni from BIMTECH: In terms of expectations, the most alumni expected a much greater frequency of contact than available at present. The alumni also expected the Institute to maintain a more social or informal contact with more than one meeting being held in a year. Suggestions were made to meet 4 – 6 times in a year to create a deeper relationship between the alums and the institute. The alums have also expressed their desire to work for brand – building of BIMTECH if the institute maintains frequent contact with the local chapter.
  • To identify & discuss two creative events to be conducted by the alumni in the coming academic year: Kolkata chapter has decided to hold a CSR oriented event in July 2019 to give back to the society. An additional event will be discussed and decided upon at a later date.
  • Addition of members in the local WhatsApp group of the respective chapter and registering themselves on BIMTECH alumni portal and other social media platforms: Details of missing members or new members has been shared and added to local whatsapp groups. The alumni are of the opinion that the Portal is ineffective for frequent contact and that social media be appropriately used for local chapters as well.

  • Encouraging the alumni to increase job postings & creating blogs on the alumni portal: Alumni have suggested that instead of the portal, Linkedin pages may be used for such postings and information dissemination.
  • Identifying & creating database for providing mentorship to our current students/Atal Incubation Centre: 14 alums have shown interest in the mentorship program whose details have been submitted to the Alumni Cell.
  • Any other creative suggestions for regular interaction: Regularization of Chapter meet and conducted of 4 – 6 informal meets in one year has been suggested by the Alums.
